Tempus fugit... or time flies. The last pigeon races have just ended and the breeding season is already starting. Most pigeon fanciers are doing winter breeding. However, this requires a specific preparation because there are no birds in nature that are now thinking about reproducing. Therefore, we give you some essential tips to get good results.
1. Make sure your pigeons are healthy
It goes without saying that winter breeding can only be done with healthy animals. If you have any doubts about the health of your pigeons, please consult a veterinarian.
In addition, you also shouldn’t start the breeding season with pigeons that are too fat. In that case, female pigeons will have more difficulties laying eggs and fertilization will not be very successful.
2. Make sure your pigeons get enough light
Winter is coming and the days are getting shorter. However, pigeons need a lot of light to breed. Therefore, it is very important to provide your breeding pigeons with extra light in order to simulate spring. A minimum of 12 hours of light per day is recommended.
3. Make sure your pigeons are in top condition
Pigeons should not only be in top condition for the races, but also for the breeding season. In that case, it is very important to give T-Tonic, as it provides better resistance and endurance. T-Tonic is a product that is indispensable during the care of our winged friends, and this for both the racing season and the moulting and breeding season.
Health Oil consists of wheat germ oil, which is well-known for its positive effect on the fertilization. It also has recently been discovered that animal proteins have a very positive influence on fertilization. After all, old male pigeons appear to be able to fertilize after thorough treatment with animal proteins. For the female pigeons, the proteins are required for laying quality eggs. And this is very important since the flying career of a pigeon actually starts when laying the egg.
We wish you the best of luck!
